Hiking routes in Ibiza

Ibiza offers routes to suit all tastes and levels of difficulty. There are groups that organise some excursions or, if you prefer, you can go on your own. To do this, the best thing to do is to get the necessary information about the route you want to do and make sure it is suitable for your physical condition.

Some of the best-known ones are the Sa Talaia route, the one that goes from San Antonio to Cala Salada or the Pla de Corona route, among many others.

Route of Sa Talaia

Sa Talaia, at an altitude of almost 500 metres, is the highest point on Ibiza. This route is of medium difficulty and can be completed in about two hours.

The starting point of the route is the Church of Sant Josep de Sa Talaia, from where you should start walking up Sa Talaia street. Without getting lost, you will reach a signposted path that will take you straight to the top. The views on arrival… Are well worth it!

Crown plan route

This hiking route is one of the must-do’s in Ibiza. Its main attraction is to contemplate the almond trees in blossom, a  colour show that will leave you speechless. To enjoy this experience to the fullest, you should do the route at the end of winter or during spring. Simply marvellous.

It is also a very easy route, suitable for beginner hikers. The starting point is Santa Inés, a village to the north of Sant Antoni that still conserves all its essence and a relaxed rural atmosphere.

Hiking in Cala Llonga

If you fancy hiking in Ibiza by the sea, this route is perfect for you. Cala Llonga is a beach with crystal-clear waters and fine sand, located in the tourist town that shares the same name.

The route, which is about 4.5 kilometres uphill, starts at the Cala Llonga car park where you will find a path on the right-hand side that runs close to the cliff. You can’t miss out on a moment to enjoy the exceptional views you’ll have of the coastal area.

It is an easy route that will take you approximately two hours to complete.

The defence towers route

In Ibiza you’ll find seven defence towers, distributed along the entirety of the island’s coastline. These towers were built for defensive purposes to guard against the entry of pirate ships. All of them have a circular plan and very thick and sturdy stone walls, capable of resisting possible enemy attacks.

This route does not consist of a signposted track that connects the different towers, but rather each one of them has trails in the surrounding area that are well worth a walk for their incredible views of the sea.

The Carregador tower, also known as Sa Sal Rossa tower, is located in Playa d’en Bossa and is one of the oldest on the island.

The tower of Ses Portes, straddling the beaches of Ses Salines and Es Cavallet, protected the Salinas and the passage to the neighbouring island of Formentera.

The Savinar tower is the only one that preserves its original gate. It is located in the Cala d’Hort nature reserve, considered by many to be the most beautiful place on Ibiza.

Another of the towers is the d’en Rovira tower, which was built in the 18th century to keep watch over some small islets in the western area, as well as the port of Sant Antoni.

The tower d’en Valls is located between the beaches of Canal d’en Martí and Cala Boix. It offers spectacular views of the small and exclusive island of Tagomago.

Next to the port of Sant Miquel you will find the tower of Balansat, also known as des Molar. You cannot miss the exceptional views of s’Illa des Bosc and s’Illa Murada.

And to finish with Ibiza’s entire defensive system, you can visit the Portinatx tower, located 45 metres above sea level, at Punta de Portinatx.
