What to do in Sant Joan de Labritja

Sant Joan de Labritja is a small village that stands out for its quiet life and magnificent surroundings. One of the town’s main attractions is its 18th-century church, which is located opposite the town hall.

A visit to the Can Vidal tobacconist’s is a must, a classic for all those who visit the town and wish to do some shopping. In addition to many other things, in this traditional establishment you will find traditional Ibizan herbs, renowned for their beneficial health properties.

You should also know that every Saturday, Sant Joan hosts a market with craft stalls from different countries.

If you get the chance, on the night of 23 June, the fiestas of Sant Joan are held, with bonfires, a traditional ceremony and a parade through the village with music, dancing, costumes and fireworks.

Surroundings to enjoy

From Sant Joan de Labritja you can walk to the Pou de Labritja, a spring that hosts a popular dance every August. These dances, revived a few years ago and accompanied by the traditional fritters and “orelletes”, are held in different places of Ibiza to pay homage to water and commemorate the end of the harvest.

The town is also surrounded by fantastic beaches, such as Portinatx cove, Xarraca cove, Vicent cove and Benirràs cove, known for its unique sunset and the hypnotic sound of drums.

It is also worth visiting the Es Culleram cave, an ancient Punic temple dedicated to Tanit, the goddess of love and fertility. Its viewpoint offers impressive views of the island of Tagomago on the horizon.

Get to know the most rural Ibiza

Sant Joan de Labritja is one of the most picturesque villages in the northern part of the island, known for its cultivated fields and the beauty of the surrounding environment.

It is one of those places that still conserve a certain charming bohemian atmosphere, where time seems to have stood still. It is perfect for breathing in the calm and enjoying the more rural atmosphere.

Despite this, it is quite common on Sundays for bars and restaurants to fill up with people waiting for their turn to have lunch or dinner. Here you will find a wide variety of cafés, bars and restaurants. The Gare Du Nord restaurant, the Vista Alegre, the Giri Cafe or the Sabores Naturales cafeteria are some of them.

As a curious fact, you might be interested to know that this fashionable village remained isolated for decades, until the road to Ibiza town was built in 1885.
