The Las Dalias Market: Ibiza’s Hippy Essence

If you’re keen to get a real taste of Ibiza, you’ve got to make a beeline for the Las Dalias market. It’s nestled in the town of San Carlos, a charming little spot in the island’s northeast that’s managed to hold onto its allure through the years.

At the Las Dalias market, you won’t just find a plethora of handmade goods to buy, but you’ll also get to immerse yourself in Ibiza’s quintessential hippy vibe. We invite you to discover the island’s true spirit!

Snagging Handicrafts at Las Dalias Market

Kicking off back in 1954, the Las Dalias market is one of Ibiza’s oldest. It was Joan Marí, a local farmer and carpenter, who brought this project to life, initially as a music venue and, from 1985, as a proper market.

Right from the start, Las Dalias stood out as a special place, and today, landing a stall here is the dream of any artisan. You’ll stumble upon endless craft stalls boasting a wide array of handmade products, including jewellery, antiques, home decor items, musical instruments, clothes, and bespoke footwear, among many others. You’ll also find other items like books, records, and exotic goods from around the globe.

Taking a stroll through the Hippy Market of Las Dalias comes highly recommended, especially to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the fantastic rural setting. The open spaces mean that, even though the market is always bustling, you won’t feel too overwhelmed.

Activities and Events at Las Dalias

Beyond shopping, there’s always something going on at the Las Dalias market – it’s one of Ibiza’s most famous markets for good reason!

It’s especially during the summer months that this place hosts a wide range of concerts, art exhibitions, storytelling sessions, parties, and all sorts of cultural, artistic, or family events. There are also regular events that have become an absolute must on the island, such as the African Masaka party, the hippy Namasté celebration, or the afro-house Summerians bash, to name a few.

Las Dalias also has a café and restaurant where you can grab a coffee, tea, or soft drink, or sit down for a lovely meal. Throughout the market, you’ll also find various food stalls offering more casual fare like pizzas, salads, tacos, or sandwiches, as well as several drink stands serving up natural juices, cocktails, and mixed drinks from around the world.

Moreover, the market features Akasha Ibiza, a nightclub that opened in 2021 and is famous for its legendary parties. It may not be the biggest club on the island, but it’s definitely worth checking out. Plus, the DJ booth is right in the middle of the dance floor, creating a unique atmosphere and outstanding sound quality.

Year-Round Market

Given the seasonal nature of tourist flow in Ibiza, it’s common for most markets to only open during the summer season. However, Las Dalias is open every Saturday throughout the year, albeit with varying hours.

In the off-season, during January, February, March, and November, you’ll find it open from 10 am to 6 pm; in April, May, and October, until 8 pm.

Notably, in December, Las Dalias hosts a Christmas market and opens daily from mid-December to January 5. That’s when the Las Dalias restaurant transforms into a charming market where, besides doing your Christmas shopping, you can also enjoy drinks, snacks, and even mulled wine.

It’s open from 5 pm Monday to Friday, from 11 am on Saturdays, and from 3 pm on Sundays.

During June, July, and September, the market is open on Saturdays from 10 am to 8 pm, and also on Mondays and Tuesdays from 7 pm to 1 am. In August, it’s also open on Sundays.

Night Market at Las Dalias

A great option, especially on the hotter days, is to visit the Las Dalias market at night. You can do this in July and August, from 7 pm to 1 am.

Enjoy a leisurely stroll, dine at the restaurant or at any of the food stalls scattered throughout the venue, or do some last-minute shopping. Plus, the Night Market often features live concerts and performances, making for a truly special end to your day.

Though there are fewer stalls open than during the day, it’s the best time to enjoy a more relaxed atmosphere.

Getting to Las Dalias Market

You’ll find the Las Dalias market on the side of the road that runs between Santa Eulalia and San Carlos.

To get there, head towards the town of Santa Eulalia. Once there, you’ll cross a bridge and continue straight until you reach a roundabout, where you’ll see signs pointing towards San Carlos. Before you get there, on the left side of the road, is where the Hippy Market of Las Dalias awaits.

Bear in mind, especially during the summer months, that the road and market can get pretty crowded. Parking isn’t usually an issue, as there are several designated parking areas right next to the market. These are paid parking zones, but at about three euros for unlimited parking, it’s quite a steal.
