Es Cubells, one of the most beautiful and tranquil villages in Ibiza

When it comes to the most charming and picturesque villages in Ibiza, we can’t overlook Es Cubells, a small village located in the southern area of San José.

This tiny population, renowned for its beautiful church and impressive cliffs, offers dreamy landscapes, intriguing stories to uncover, and above all, plenty of tranquility for those who visit. Join us as we guide you through its hidden treasures.

Things to do in Es Cubells

With only a handful of houses, this small village perched on a cliff exudes a special charm no matter where you look. Not only is it considered one of the most beautiful villages in Ibiza, but it’s also one of the quietest. So, if you’re looking to escape the hustle and bustle, this is the place to be!

Upon arrival, you’ll be struck by its beautiful church, the Church of Our Lady of Carmen, a fine example of typical Ibiza architecture. Its construction was commissioned by the Carmelite friar Francesc Palau, better known in Es Cubells as Pare Palau, who spent long periods of time as a hermit on the islet of Es Vedrà. Such was the impact he had on the village that there’s a monument dedicated to him in the park next to the church.

In the heart of the village, you’ll also find a couple of bars, a grocery store, and a cultural center. On the outskirts, the convent of the Teresian nuns stands out, although it’s currently closed to the public.

But if there’s one place you must visit in Es Cubells, it’s the viewpoint, which will undoubtedly impress you with its privileged natural setting and spectacular views of the sea and cliffs. Additionally, perched on the cliff, a monument representing the skeleton of a ‘llaüt,’ the traditional fishing boat, pays tribute to Es Cubells’ maritime tradition.

Cala de Es Cubells

At the foot of the cliffs of this beautiful village lies Cala de Es Cubells, divided into three distinct parts and mostly covered in pebbles or rounded stones. It’s a small, quiet, and solitary cove with no services, perfect for those seeking to escape the hustle and bustle of Ibiza.

Access to the beach is not easy and, in fact, there are no signs. To reach it, you’ll need to start from the village of Es Cubells. After passing the church, about five hundred meters later, you’ll need to take an unpaved path. Since it’s not very accessible, keep in mind that this isn’t the best beach for a family day out.

However, due to the beauty of its seabed, it’s the perfect beach for diving enthusiasts. Don’t forget your mask and fins!

The surroundings of Es Cubells also offer great interest to those seeking a hiking route with a unique panorama. If that’s your case, you can follow the coastline and access other nearby beaches, such as Ses Boques or Cala Llentrisca.

Despite being a small village, there are many reasons to visit Es Cubells. This welcoming village, inhabited by friendly and laid-back people, will always welcome you with open arms.
