Cala d’Hort beach
Cala d’Hort is a small beach of white sand and crystal-clear waters, surrounded by cliffs and typical Mediterranean pine forests.
With its innate natural beauty, this beach has a rocky area and another area of finer sand. On the right side, some traditional fishermen’s cottages are still preserved, which gives it a very authentic seaside atmosphere. As it’s protected by the cliffs, the beach is usually sheltered from strong waves and currents, which makes it an excellent alternative for families with children, as well as for snorkelling and diving.
However, although it’s uncommon, on days with strong winds you won’t avoid the intense swell, making this beach also a good place for surfing.
Cala d’Hort, especially on weekends, tends to be quite busy with tourists from all over the island.
Also, don’t miss the magnificent views of Es Vedrà and Es Vedranell, two of Ibiza’s most important islets that once served as a refuge for pirates and corsairs.
What can you do in Cala d’Hort?
Apart from enjoying one of the most beautiful sunsets in Ibiza, in Cala d’Hort you can delight yourself with some of the most representative dishes of Ibizan gastronomy.
On the beach you will find several restaurants, some right on the beach and others located high up on the cliffs, where you can try delicious rice dishes, paellas and fresh fish.
Another activity you can do in Cala d’Hort is to go kayaking, which will allow you to get up close and personal with the islets of Es Vedrà and Es Vedranell.
Similarly, if you’re interested in its history, just a few kilometres from the beach we recommend you visit the archaeological site of Ses Païsses de Cala d’Hort. This is a rural settlement that was founded in the 5th century BC and takes you through what life was like during the Roman, Phoenician and Byzantine periods. Here, you will find a house, two necropolises and a shed dedicated to the rural environment.
The islets of Es Vedrà and Es Vedranell
It’s often said that the beach of Cala d’Hort is the “guardian” of the islets of Es Vedrà and Es Vedranell. Both islets stand out for their wild appearance and for their great natural wealth. In fact, it’s worth mentioning that this stretch of coastline forms part of the nature reserve composed of Es Vedrà, Es Vedranell and the islets of Ponent, a natural refuge for a great variety of birds.
Undoubtedly, the islet of Es Vedrà is this beach’s main protagonist. This is due to the fact that, from any point from which you gaze at it, you will always enjoy an unbeatable panoramic view. Over the years, the islet has given way to many legends and stories about it. Today, it’s considered a magical place which has inspired numerous artists.
