Natural treasures in Ibiza
The islands of Es Vedrà, Es Vedranell and the Illots de Ponent have formed part of a protected natural area since 2002, located in the municipality of Sant Josep de Sa Talaia.
On the one hand, you will find the group formed by the islands of Es Vedrà and Es Vedranell and, on the other, all the islets that make up the Illots de Ponent. These are Sa Conillera, S’Illa des Bosc, S’Espartar and Ses Bledes, which includes four additional islets.
All the islets are characterised by their rich flora, as well as a great diversity of marine birds and many endemic species. In fact, this nature reserve is one of the main breeding grounds for both seabirds and birds of prey. Some of the species you can find here are the Audouin’s gull, the Balearic shearwater and the common storm petrel, which holds one of its most important colonies in the entire Mediterranean on the island of S’Espartar
Another of the most abundant species in the Es Vedrà, Es Vedranell and Illots de Ponent Nature Reserve is the protected lizard known as the Pitiusas lizard, the only species of lizard that lives on the islands, which you will easily recognise by its size and greenish colour.
A spectacular landscape of the islet of Es Vedrà
The silhouette of Es Vedrà emerging from the sea is one of the most iconic images of the island of Ibiza. It stands out for its great beauty and for offering unique panoramic views.
The islet, at 382 metres of height, is a large, easily recognisable rock pyramid located off the coast of Cala d’Hort, in Sant Josep de Sa Talaia.
Both Es Vedrà and the rest of the islets are continuously subjected to the lashing of the sea and the wind. Despite these unfavourable conditions for animal and plant life, there are many endemic species that manage to survive… This alone makes the visit worthwhile!
Es Vedrà is also well known for the many myths, legends and mysterious stories that have sprung up around the island. Many come to Es Vedrà in search of the magical properties attributed to the island. Whether it is myth or reality, the truth is that visiting Es Vedrà and the other islets is a truly unique experience.
The best sunsets in Ibiza from Es Vedrà
If you want to find peace and quiet in Ibiza, visiting Es Vedrà, Es Vedranell and the rest of the islets is a perfect alternative. It is the perfect occasion to discover spectacular cliffs and lost and lonely coves, as well as to contemplate the best sunsets in Ibiza.
You are probably wondering what is the best way to get to Es Vedrà. In this regard, you should know that the only way to reach the islets is by sea. So you can prepare your boat, apply for the necessary permits and… Get ready to enjoy!
