3 beaches to enjoy diving in Ibiza

The island of Ibiza is an exceptional destination for scuba diving. The extremely transparent waters provide incredible visibility, ideal for discovering its underwater depths.

Here are some of the best places to dive in Ibiza. Allow yourself to be amazed by underwater caves, posidonia meadows, a wide variety of marine flora and fauna, and even sunken ships. Can you imagine?

Cueva de la Luz (Cave of Light)

This cave, also known as Na Coloms, is located in the northern part of Ibiza, near the municipality of Sant Mateu d’Aubarca.

It is a practically inaccessible place surrounded by impressive cliffs that is highly appreciated by experienced divers, despite the fact that you will not show up on any map. The completely flooded cave is only a few metres below sea level and gives rise to a natural pool of great beauty.

This gallery is presided over by a large dome and offers exceptional visibility, as well as an impressive natural light show. It’s important to note that this dive is reserved exclusively for experienced divers.

Cala Llonga cave

This cave, perhaps better known by the locals as La Catedral or the Cathedral, is one of the best places to dive in Ibiza. It is located to the south of Santa Eulària des Riu, just over twenty-five metres below sea level.

The entrance to the cave is located at a depth of around seven or eight metres. After crossing a tunnel, you will reach the largest room in the cave. Here there is a large dome where you can take a deep breath and contemplate spectacular stalactites and other rock formations.

This is a relatively simple dive that will also allow you to discover a wide variety of marine species, such as starfish, conger eels and moray eels.

Islets of Es Daus

Es Daus is composed of two small islets known as Es Dau Gros and Es Dau Petit. If you dive in this area, you will discover the remains of a ship that sank in 2007 while making the route from Ibiza to Denia.

This is a very interesting dive that will allow you to contemplate the beauty of Ibiza’s underwater depths. However, it requires you to dive to depths of around 45 metres, so, if you are not very experienced, this is not the place for you!

If you’re a beginner…

If you want to start diving or you are an amateur diver and want to improve your technique, we recommend you to go to one of the diving schools that you will find all over the island, for example in Sant Antoni de Portmany in the port of Ibiza, in Cala Tarida, or in Sant Josep de Sa Talaia, among many others.

This is a good opportunity to take a diving course or hire the services of a specialised instructor who will accompany you to some of the best diving areas in Ibiza.

In any case, whether you have experience or not, Ibiza is an amazing place to dive, where you will discover the great biodiversity of the island’s seabed. Are you coming to discover it?
