If you are an unconditional surfing lover and you are on holiday in Ibiza, you must know that… There are waves in Ibiza too!
Despite not being an outstanding surfing destination, the island of Ibiza is home to certain beaches and coves where, frequently, perfect surfing waves are formed, especially during the months of October to December. So… get your board ready and read on!
Cala Jondal
Located in the south of the island, this beach is the most famous among surfers. It has còdols or pebbles, with clean and transparent waters surrounded by cliffs. The perfect setting for catching waves on your board.
Cala Jondal also has several beach bars and beach clubs, where you can sit, relax and sip a mojito to the rhythm of good music until nightfall. The truth is that having a cocktail and watching the sunset after a full day of surfing has become a classic. Are you up for it?
Cala Nova
Are you looking for a beach in Ibiza where the wind blows strongly? Welcome to Cala Nova! As an enclave open to the sea, with strong currents and waves up to several metres high, it is considered one of the best surfing beaches in the northeast of Ibiza.
This small cove is located very close to Es Canar and Sant Carles, and the best thing about it is that it has a magnificent natural environment, surrounded by pine trees and almost free of buildings. However, it does also have some restaurants on the beach where you can have lunch or dinner.
Cala Tarida
If you are looking for a surfing beach with all the necessary facilities, this is the beach for you! Cala Tarida is located in west Ibiza, an area full of hotels, flats and restaurants.
It is one of the largest beaches and offers a wide range of leisure activities. Due to its easy and convenient access, it is quite popular amongst families with children. If you want to surf in peace and quiet and escape the crowds, you can always head north on foot to some smaller, lesser-known coves.
Aigües Blanques
This beach of crystal-clear waters and white sand, located a few kilometres from Santa Eulària, is perfect for surfing, nudism or mud baths.
It is open to the sea and, although it is protected by steep cliffs, it is subjected to the impact of the easterly winds, giving rise to perfect surfing waves. In fact, its name comes from the usual presence of white foam caused by the strong swell.
Sant Antoni Bay
The bay of Sant Antoni is one of the best places to have fun and get surfing, thanks to the presence of the Surf Lounge Ibiza, an area dedicated to surfing.
It is located on S’Arenal beach and could be considered a theme park dedicated to surfing. It has a ride, the Flowrider, which allows you to surf on the board as much as you want. It also has a restaurant, swimming pool, a large terrace with Balinese beds, an outdoor gym and a surf clothes shop. Cala Jondal, Cala Nova, Cala Tarida, Aigües Blanques or the bay of Sant Antoni… Which one do you choose?
