Santa Eulalia, or Santa Eulària d’es Riu, located on the east coast of Ibiza about fifteen kilometres from Ibiza, is a perfect village for families and couples looking for a place to enjoy a quiet beach holiday.
This town, which remains on the fringes of the island’s nightlife scene, stands out for being the only one in the Balearic Islands to have a river. In fact, this is where its name comes from, Santa Eulària d’es Riu.
The town, recognised as a cultural and gastronomic destination, is frequented every year by numerous tourists attracted by its beaches, its promenade, its peaceful atmosphere and also by its shops, bars and restaurants.
Santa Eulalia offers you a wide range of attractions to discover and activities to do. Are you coming?
What to see in Santa Eulalia
Santa Eulalia is a town of beautiful beaches, with a pleasant marina and an old town full of white houses, distributed around the hill of Puig de Missa. It is worth climbing to the top where you will find the 16th century church of Nuestra Señora de Jesús, and from where you will get unique views of Santa Eulalia, nearby towns and also of the bay of Cala Llonga. The church is similar to a temple-fortress, as centuries ago it served as a defensive structure against attacks from the Maghreb.
Next to the church, in a traditional Ibizan house, you will find the Museum of Ethnography and, on the last stretch of the river, the Can Planetes River Interpretation Centre with a flourmill.
Many people come to Santa Eulalia in search of its hippy markets, shops, bars and restaurants.
Stroll along the seafront
Santa Eulalia has a long promenade several kilometres long, with palm trees, small gardens and a fountain. It runs along the coast, from the Yacht Club to the Mariners beach, where the only river of the island flows into.
Along the promenade there are many bars, restaurants and shops, which give this area a lively and cheerful atmosphere.
We recommend a stroll along the river along the path that will take you to the Roman bridge. This will lead you directly to the small cove Caló de S’Alga, characterised by a more rural atmosphere.
Its marina has made this locality one of the best areas for shopping, dining out or enjoying the nightlife. It is undoubtedly an elegant area, where large luxury boats arrive, typical of the more exclusive tourism of Ibiza.
Shopping in Santa Eulalia: shops, boutiques and street markets
The centre of Santa Eulalia stands out for the colour of its oleanders and hibiscus blossoms. It is common for the Rambla leading to the town hall to be lined with craft stalls and artists showing their portraits to curious tourists and locals.
The city has shops of all kinds, from sophisticated fashion boutiques to decoration and sportswear shops, among many others.
But, without a doubt, the highlights are its famous hippy markets, such as Las Dalias and Punta Arabí. They are the ideal place to buy handicrafts, clothes, footwear and even food. The first stalls were set up in the 1970s and today they are a point of reference throughout the island.
In short, Santa Eulalia is a meeting place for those who want to enjoy the calm and also a typically Mediterranean, bohemian and chic atmosphere.
