Las Salinas, Ibiza’s most popular beach

Welcome to one of Ibiza’s most popular beaches! Las Salinas, also known as Ses Salines, is located inside the Ses Salines Natural Park, a protected area located between the islands of Ibiza and Formentera.

This beach, with fine sands and turquoise waters, is one of the most popular and crowded beaches in Ibiza, being quite frequented by some celebrities and public figures.

Due to its shallow waters and calm atmosphere, it is a good beach to go to with children. Enjoy your holidays!

The beach of Ses Salines, in Ibiza, a privileged setting to discover

Las Salinas beach, also known as Migjorn beach, is located in the southern part of the island. For many, it is one of the best beaches in Ibiza due to its dune systems, its clean, transparent waters and its exceptional surroundings.

At almost a kilometre and a half long, this beach is one of the longest on the entire island. You can access it via wooden walkways which have been set up from the parking area to the beach, with the aim of preserving the dunes and the vegetation of the area.

It is also one of the best-known beaches. Proof of this is that, at the height of the summer season, it is difficult to find a space on the sand to place a towel. Moreover, it is not unusual to see some famous people on the beach or in some of the luxurious beach bars, such as singers, television presenters or footballers, among many others.

And speaking of beach bars, next to the beach you’ll find the Malibú, Sa Trinxa, Jockey Club and Beso Beach, places with loud music and an extensive menu of food and drinks.

A perfect beach for families

Until not so long ago, it was common for families to spend the day on the beach and then settle down in the dune area for lunch, enjoying the shade of the pine trees. Nowadays, in order to preserve the vegetation, the area is off-limits to visitors.

Las Salinas is a beach with shallow waters and a gentle slope, perfect for families. For the little ones, there is a play area in the water where they can have fun without any danger. It also offers a wide variety of services and it is quite common to find street vendors offering all kinds of products, be they sweets, fruit, sarongs or other items of clothing.

Ses Salines Natural Park

Ses Salines beach is located inside the Ses Salines Natural Park, a protected area that includes part of Ibiza and Formentera.

Its name comes from the fact that, in the past, salt extraction was the only industrial activity on the island. In fact, you can still see the old train line, the first train in the Balearic Islands, on which the salt extracted in the salt flats was transported to the quay on the west side of the beach. Nowadays, it is lorries that collect the salt directly to take it to the ships bound for northern European countries, salt being, to this day, Ibiza’s most exported product.

The Ses Salines de Ibiza Natural Park covers a protected area of some 16,000 hectares, 13,000 of which are marine. This natural area includes the wetlands of Ses Salines, in Ibiza, as well as s’Estany del Peix and s’Estany Pudent in Formentera. It also includes the beaches of Las Salinas, Es Cavallet, Es Codolar and Canal de s’Olla, as well as the Es Trucadors peninsula on Formentera, with the beaches of Illetes and Llevant.

It stands out for its magnificent natural environment, for its flora and fauna, and also for its Posidonia oceanica meadows, which, in addition to fulfilling a very important function related to the oxygenation and filtering of the water, were declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1999. Las Salinas has also become a place of passage for numerous migratory birds, such as flamingos.

In short, Las Salinas beach, with its spectacular surroundings, is a great place to visit during your holidays in Ibiza. Also, if you feel like going for a stroll, there are several paths from the car park that run through pine and juniper trees, allowing you to enjoy its natural surroundings.
