Have you thought about enjoying Christmas Eve in Ibiza? Although the island is known for its sun, beaches and partying, December in general and the Christmas season in particular is an ideal time for a getaway due to its atmosphere, its charm and also because there are so many activities for everyone.
Strolling around Dalt Vila, visiting Christmas markets, tasting typical Ibizan dishes or taking part in activities for the younger ones are just some of the plans you can choose from. Here are some of them.
Typical Christmas Eve dishes in Ibiza
What would Christmas be without being able to sit around a table in the company of our loved ones? Christmas Eve is an excellent opportunity to discover the traditional dishes and special desserts of Ibiza during the Christmas holidays.
In Ibiza, soups and spoon dishes triumph as first courses and meat and fish dishes as main courses. For dessert, nothing better than flaó, greixonera or salsa de Nadal (Christmas sauce), which is always accompanied by the traditional bescuit or sponge cake.
One of the typical Christmas dishes in Ibiza is known as fava pelada, a cream of broad beans with noodles, which is made with a sauce of vegetables, tomato and butifarró. You can also take this opportunity to try “sofrit pagès”, made with a mixture of different types of chicken, pork and lamb, potatoes, sobrassada and butifarró; as well as “bullit de peix”, if you prefer fish.
Walking around the Christmas markets
In Ibiza you’ll find street markets and pop-up stores scattered all over the island with different opening hours, a wide range of styles and diverse activities that will delight the little ones.
One of the best-known markets is the one set up on Paseo de Vara de Rey in Ibiza Town. As well as housing the largest Christmas tree and many stalls with clothes, costume jewellery and numerous Christmas decorations, you will also find some pa amb companatge stalls, where you can taste sobrasadas, cheeses and other products, accompanied by a glass of wine.
Another market worth visiting is Las Dalias, in Sant Carles, a hippy market where you can buy a wide variety of original gifts, clothes, accessories, costume jewellery, decoration and handicrafts. It also organises a wide range of workshops for all ages, some of them specifically dedicated to children.
You can also visit the Sant Antoni Christmas market, with its traditional wooden stalls on Paseo de Ses Fonts; or the Sant Josep market, with a very special Christmas atmosphere.
Christmas activities in Ibiza
Like every year, Ibiza Town Hall puts on a programme of Christmas festivities, with countless activities for everyone, especially for children.
Throughout almost the entire month of December, you can enjoy special concerts, Christmas parades, carol singing and much more. The kids will have a great time on the bouncy castles, participating in the games, magic shows, cinemas, storytelling activities and family workshops.
In addition, like every year, the traditional Feim Barri, Feim Nadal takes place in Vara de Rey, where, among the many activities organised, Santa’s postman will gladly collect all of the letters written for him that year! Long live Christmas Eve and Christmas in Ibiza!
