Discover 4 car routes around the island of Ibiza

No matter how many days you spend on the island, you’ll always find something to do and somewhere to discover. And a good way to do this is by car. If you’ve travelled to Ibiza without a one… Don’t worry! You can hire a car and freely explore Ibiza at your own pace.

Ibiza is a small island where distances are short and where you’ll have the feeling of having a universe in front of you just a stone’s throw away. Here are some of the most outstanding routes that you can do by car – don’t miss out on them and discover the best spots of each area!

Drive around the north of Ibiza

Beyond the parties and Ibiza’s macro clubs, the north of Ibiza is one of the most peaceful areas of the island, full of pretty villages and small, spectacularly beautiful beaches. Get ready to live without rushing, to connect with nature and to discover the small details at your leisure.

This route by car starts in Sant Carles de Peralta, a village near the town of Es Canar. Here you can visit its church, an interesting old farmhouse known as Es Trull de Ca n’Andreu and the Las Dalias street market. From here and on the way to Sant Joan de Labritja, you can head for the beaches of Es Figueral, Aigües Blanques or Cala Sant Vicent.

Sant Joan de Labritja, because of its whitewashed houses, is also known as the white village. You can stop for a moment to visit its 18th century church and try the Ibizan herbs served in the tobacconist’s shop Can Vidal, the town’s most popular establishment.

From Sant Joan you can head for the beautiful coves of Cala d’en Serra, Portinatx and Cala Xarraca, among others. This route through the north of Ibiza comes to an end in Cala Benirràs, one of the most famous coves on the island. You can end the day there enjoying a spectacular sunset, with the iconic islet of Es Cap Bernat as a backdrop.

On the hunt for the island’s southern edges

A good place to start this car route through the south of Ibiza is Sant Josep de Sa Talaia, a small, welcoming village located at the foot of Mount Sa Talaia which has an altitude of 475 metres. You can’t miss its church, considered to be one of the most beautiful examples of Ibizan architecture.

From Sant Josep you can head to Es Cubells, a village located on a cliff with spectacular views and an exceptional location. Other places we recommend you visit are Porroig and its typical beach huts; the Phoenician settlement and the beach of Sa Caleta; the beach of Cala Jondal and Es Torrent.

Further south you will find the Ses Salines nature park, a protected area between Ibiza and Formentera that is home to numerous species of flora and fauna. Without a doubt, this is a must-see spot.

This southern route ends at Playa d’en Bossa beach, with its shallow waters being ideal for families with children.

The eastern part of Ibiza, ideal for families

This is the island’s most family-friendly area, a quiet space with beautiful beaches and genuine street markets. This route starts in Santa Eulària des Riu, where you cannot miss out on visiting the Puig de Missa and the Museum of Ethnography.

Es Canar is one of the most important tourist areas in the municipality of Santa Eulària, stretching from the beach of Cala Nova to Punta Arabí, where you must visit Ibiza’s largest hippy market.

You should bear in mind that this area is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in Ibiza, such as Aigües Blanques or Cala Nova, most of which have a family atmosphere.

Some of the beautiful beaches to the west of the island

The western part of the island of Ibiza stands out for its fantastic beaches and sunsets. Starting from Cala d’Hort, you can discover countless incredible beaches and coves. Cala Carbó, cala Vadella, cala Molí, cala Tarida, cala Conta, cala Bassa or cala Salada are just some of the impressive coves in this area.

It’s also where most of the island’s nightclubs are located, a paradise for lovers of entertainment and electronic music.

As you can see, these are just 4 great car routes among others that you can travel so as to discover the essence of Ibiza and the Mediterranean a little better.
