Can you imagine spending Christmas in Ibiza? Although July and August are the most popular months, discovering the island during this time can be a unique experience.

During the festive season, with its lights, nativity scenes, and Christmas markets, Ibiza showcases its charm to remind everyone who visits that magic truly exists. Here’s everything you can do on the island during Christmas. We hope you enjoy it!

Christmas Light Displays

If you’re in Ibiza town, you should know that the start of festivities is marked by the official lighting of street decorations and the Christmas tree, which usually takes place at Paseo Vara de Rey.

The event is held in the afternoon, once it has become dark, and is often accompanied by performances from the children’s choir of the Music School, street performances, and live music. The Christmas market will also be inaugurated and will remain open until January 6.
Each year, the Ibiza Town Council organises a comprehensive programme of activities, including a wide range of events for both adults and children.

Other locations where you can enjoy the Christmas light displays and markets are San Antonio and Santa Eulalia, where it is customary for the lighting to occur on the Friday before Constitution Day weekend. Additionally, there are numerous activities and events for all ages.

The Best Christmas Markets

One of the most iconic Christmas markets in Ibiza is located at Paseo Vara de Rey in Ibiza town. Here, along with the island’s largest Christmas tree, you’ll find stalls offering handmade products, festive decorations, and traditional local goods such as cheeses, breads, and sobrasada.

Another market not to be missed is in San Antonio, where traditional wooden stalls are set up along Paseo de Ses Fonts. Here, you can purchase handcrafted gifts and decorations created with care by local artisans.

At Las Dalias market in San Carlos, you’ll find Christmas shopping options with stalls featuring clothing, decorations, jewellery, and crafts, among others. During the festive period, various activities and workshops are also organised for all ages.

In short, no matter where you are on the island, you’ll find a Christmas market with live music, activities, and even a visit from Santa Claus.

Children’s Activities in Ibiza

Ice Skating Rink

One of the most anticipated attractions of the festive season is the artificial ice skating rink, which is included in the Town Council’s Christmas programme each year.

Although the exact location is yet to be confirmed, some of the usual spots include Parque Reina Sofía or Plaza de Antoni Albert i Nieto. It typically opens in early December and remains open every day until January 7. Best of all, it is free to access. Without a doubt, it offers great entertainment for both children and adults.

Letters to Santa Claus

If you’re looking for a place to send letters to Santa Claus, a good option is the Santa’s House located at Paseo Vara de Rey in Ibiza town.
In San Antonio, the Fireta de Nadal event also offers the chance to submit letters to Santa Claus. There’s a children’s area with inflatable castles, characters, music, games, family shows, and the popular ‘Tren de Piruleto,’ which takes a tour through the town’s streets. Get ready to be enchanted by the magic of Christmas!

Inflatable Castles

Each year, as part of the Feim Barri Feim Nadal programme, Ibiza Town organises many festive activities, especially for children.
In Antoni Albert i Nieto square, fun inflatable castles are set up where children can enjoy hours of entertainment. Additionally, various games, art workshops, and other activities are organised.

Similarly, in San Antonio’s Fuente square, you’ll find a tent with inflatable castles where daily family events and activities are held.

Other Children’s Activities

In addition to the Christmas Market, the artificial ice skating rink, and festive-themed inflatable castles, Ibiza town offers a variety of other activities during the Christmas season.

At Sa Joveria car park, a fairground is usually set up, open every afternoon and all day on weekends.

At Reina Sofía Park, food trucks offer a variety of treats, including sandwiches, crepes, and pizzas.

Furthermore, in various locations around the island, Christmas-themed photo spots (Photocall Navideño) are set up for the perfect festive photographs. Ses Figueretes or Playa d’en Bossa are among them.

It’s worth noting that throughout December, Ibiza town hosts parades, concerts, storytelling sessions, workshops, and magic shows. Be sure to check the festive programme to stay up to date and make the most of your time.

Christmas Gastronomy in Ibiza

In Ibiza, it is common to celebrate Christmas with traditional family meals featuring festive dishes.

As in many other places, the first courses often include soups and hearty dishes such as meat broth, bullit de peix, sofrit pagès, and fava pelada, which is a bean and noodle cream.

In addition to the traditional meat or fish main courses, lamb roasted in the oven or roasted pork are also popular choices.

For dessert… don’t miss the Salsa de Nadal, a sweet sauce ideal for those with a sweet tooth. It is typically prepared in large quantities to be served with apple tart or sponge cake. Other traditional island sweets such as flaó and greixonera are also a must-try.

Ibiza is a wonderful destination to soak in the festive spirit. We hope you enjoy your stay and… Merry Christmas!”
