This cove, located just 5 kilometres from Sant Francesc Xavier, the island’s capital, stands out for being the only sandy beach in the entire southwest area of Formentera. We can think of many reasons to convince you to visit this beach, but for now, we’ll leave you with four of them. Discover them below!

1. Unique sandy beach between cliffs

Cala Saona, as the only sandy beach in this area full of cliffs, is considered a real gem. It is a small cove, barely 140 metres long, located in a modest bay between Punta Rasa, to the south, and Es Caló d’en Trull, to the north.

Despite the fact that it is a beach with a large number of visitors, its atmosphere is peaceful and still retains all of its charm and essence to this day, thanks to the beach huts with the traditional llauts.

2. Activities in Cala Saona

Cala Saona is an essential place to visit during your stay on the island that also offers a wide range of activities. Here you can go kayaking, snorkelling or paddle surfing, among many others.

If you want to get started in the sport of scuba diving, don’t miss out on a visit to the Punta Rasa underwater caves. These shallow caves have a very wide entrance allowing you to dive safely.

In addition, its sandy seabed and crystal clear water make this beach perfect for swimming or sunbathing.

3. A spectacular natural setting

This beach, delimited by a group of red rocks, offers you a magnificent setting. It is a small U-shaped cove, surrounded by attractive cliffs that form part of the Cap Alt Natural Area of Special Interest.

A fabulous environment, with junipers and many other Mediterranean species, surrounds the beach. There are many paths along the southern coast of Cala Saona that will take you to the cliffs of Punta Rasa. In any case, it is always a good option to take a break along the way, and rest under the shade of a pine tree.

4. One of the best sunsets in Formentera

When the sun sets in Cala Saona, the show begins! Pay attention to the contrast between the reddish rocks, the turquoise blue of the water and the great palette of colours in the sky, because it is then that time seems to stand still.

Have a mojito at the beach bar and just worry about enjoying yourself.
