Cala Es Canaret, a lost beach in Ibiza

This beach is little known by tourists and receives few visitors, perhaps because it does not usually appear in tourist guides or on maps.

Until relatively recently, it was impossible to reach this beach by land. Access was only possible via a private house with a tower on its shore, or by sea.

Nowadays, access is easier, thanks to a well-signposted public path that leads to the shore of this hidden cove. Along the way you will find an odd monument that commemorates the tragic fire that devastated a large part of the coast in 2010.

Although this cove only has a few beach huts and no facilities, the surroundings are magnificent and well worth a visit.

A perfect beach for diving

Nowadays, Cala Es Canaret is accessible by land, but many visitors still access the beach by sea. In fact, it is one of the best places on the island for anchoring boats.

Due to its great biodiversity, many say that this area is a true maritime paradise.

If you are a diving lover… this is the place for you! Here you can admire a great variety of fish and also the characteristic Posidonia oceanica meadows, declared a world heritage site by UNESCO.

Curiosities of Es Canaret

This secluded cove is home to Illot des Canaret, an islet that for many years was used as a chicken and rabbit pen by a farmer who owned the land.

His vegetable garden was then located on the land, now occupied by the mansion, which gives access to the beach’s shore. You can still see the cave where the farmer slept when it was getting late, where he made wine and also where he cooked.

After his death, the estate was sold to a now deceased German businessman, who decided to build his home there.

How to get to Es Canaret cove

To reach the cove, you must head towards Portinatx. Two kilometres ahead you will come to a very sharp bend from where you will see a rural tourism house on the right. In front of it, you will find a semi-surfaced path that, following the signs, will take you to Xarraca Cove. There you will find three dirt tracks. You should take the third one on the left which will lead you to Es Caló de s’Illa. Go to the end and continue along the path until you can see the dry dock huts on the shore. You have arrived!
