Art in Ibiza: 5 Must-Visit Museums and Exhibitions

Ibiza is a true wellspring of inspiration and has, over the years, become a haven for artists, painters, sculptors, and photographers. On this island, they’ve found the perfect place to express themselves freely through their creations.

As a result, Ibiza boasts a wealth of art museums, galleries, and exhibition spaces scattered across the island. In today’s guide, we’ll introduce you to some of them, helping you delve deeper into Ibiza’s culture and art scene.

Museum of Contemporary Art (MACE)

The Museum of Contemporary Art of Ibiza, known as MACE, is housed in a historic 17th-century building within the old town of Ibiza.

Opened in 1964, the museum spans nearly 2,000 square metres, featuring both permanent and temporary exhibitions. It showcases an intriguing collection of contemporary art, with works by artists such as Katja Meirowsky, Carlos Sansegundo and Heinz Trökes. Notable exhibits include posters donated by Carl van der Voort and prints from the Ibizagrafic competition.

Additionally, the museum includes a section dedicated to archaeological remains from the 7th century BC, unearthed during renovations between 2007 and 2012.

Puget Museum

Located in Can Comasema, a stunning palace on Sant Ciríac Street in Dalt Vila, the Puget Museum was inaugurated in 2007 and houses a significant collection of art belonging to the Puget family.

The drawings and oil paintings of Narcís Puget Viñas and the watercolours of Narcís Puget Riquer, father and son, depict the rural landscapes of Ibiza and scenes of everyday life from the early 20th century. Alongside its permanent collection, the museum occasionally hosts temporary exhibitions featuring artists with ties to Ibiza.

As you tour the museum, take a moment to admire the exhibition space itself and enjoy the spectacular views of Ibiza’s harbour from the palace’s windows.

Lune Rouge and Art Projects Ibiza Galleries

These two galleries, owned by Guy Laliberté, the founder of Cirque du Soleil, were created to showcase Ibiza’s art scene and support local artists.

Both galleries are located in Ibiza Town and host two exhibitions annually—one in summer and one in winter. They also organise various educational activities and events throughout the year, primarily catering to the island’s residents.

La Nave Salinas Art Gallery

Situated in the Ses Salines area, this 700-square-metre gallery occupies a former salt storage facility from the post-war era. Today, it’s a contemporary art exhibition space.

Through his personal collection, founder Lio Malca aims to bring contemporary art closer to the community while paying tribute to the islands of Ibiza and Formentera.

Ses Coves Blanques Lighthouse

The Ses Coves Blanques Lighthouse in San Antonio, built in 1897, ceased operating as a lighthouse and has since been repurposed as one of the island’s most unique exhibition spaces.

Inside, visitors will find a dynamic exhibition featuring works by various artists. This cultural venue is noteworthy not only for its artistic content but also for its exceptional location.
