4 routes to discover Ibiza by bike

More than 700 kilometres of cycling routes make Ibiza a paradise for cycling lovers. On this island you will find routes of varying difficulty classified by colour. Many of them are circular and suitable for all ages. If you want to explore the island on two wheels, discovering unique spots and spectacular landscapes, here are some of the best routes.

Green cycling route: from Sant Antoni to Cala Bassa

The green cycling routes are characterised by their simplicity, short duration and low gradient. They have been conceived for those who want to start cycling for the first time or who want to enjoy an unforgettable time with their family. Since they don’t require too much physical effort, they are also ideal for children.

One of these routes starts in the town of Sant Antoni. The route is approximately 12 kilometres long and is divided into five different parts.

You will pass through Port des Torrent, one of the last beaches in the bay of Sant Antoni, which also boasts spectacular scenery. The route will take you past Sant Agustí des Vedrà and Cala Tarida, until you reach Torre d’en Rovira, where you can enjoy a magnificent view of the islets of Sa Conillera, s’Illa d’es Bosc, s’Espartar and ses Bledes. The route culminates in Cala Bassa beach, from where you can return to its starting point.

Blue cycling route: from Sant Antoni to Santa Gertrudis de Fruitera

The blue cycling routes, although they’re not very complicated, are a little longer than the green ones. For this reason, they’re not recommended for first-time cyclists nor for families with small children.

The route that will take you to Santa Gertrudis is not at all complicated, but it’s 30 kilometres long and has some slightly steep sections.

This route, which also starts and ends in Sant Antoni, will allow you to discover the rural landscapes of Sant Rafael and Santa Gertrudis. On the way back, you’ll pass through the natural spot of Es Broll de Buscastell, a beautiful valley that stretches along the torrent, with a natural spring that comes from the valley’s underground.

Red cycling route: from Sant Antoni to Sa Serra Grossa

If you’re a cyclist who is used to medium-high difficulty itineraries, this is the route for you. The trails identified with the colour red have some technical difficulties and require endurance when pedalling, as well as a certain degree of experience.

The route we suggest is circular and has a total distance of 33 kilometres. The starting point is the town of Sant Antoni. From there, the route will take you to Sa Serra Grossa, one of the best-preserved areas on the island and one of the most biologically rich. In the first part of the ascent, you will climb to the area of Sa Capelleta. In the second part, you will reach the highest part of Sa Serra Grossa. The climb is tough, but the reward is well worth it.

Ibiza Extrem: the black-coloured cycling route

If you’re one of those who is looking for a cycling route of extreme difficulty, the Ibiza Extrem may be a good alternative. As you can imagine, the routes marked in black are only suitable for the most experienced cyclists. If you are amongst them… What are you waiting for!?

This 58-kilometre route is inspired by a well-known competition held every year in Sant Josep. It’s a circular track of great technical difficulty that starts and finishes in the town of Sant Josep de Sa Talaia.

After ascending Sa Capelleta and Sa Serra Grossa, you will head towards the area of Cala Jondal and Es Cubells. In the final part of the route, you will have to prepare for the climb to Sa Talaia, the highest point on Ibiza which stands at 475 metres.

It’s worth noting that, whichever route you take, the reward is always well worth it: a beautiful landscape that is definitely worth seeing.
